Constance had several pictures of the ork campsite, where the pages were, and where Rossman was still being held, and where the orks were apparently building rockets of various kinds from a crashed xenos spaceship. They decided to sneak down there themselves and take a look themselves. There was a growing sense of distrust among some of them, since this enemy, or at least, subordinate of an enemy, was more persuasively a member of the inquisition than they. But they decided at least that the first thing was to actually retrieve the page, because regardless of what happened to it, it still needed to be retrieved from Ravenor, and/or the orks.
They snuck down to the general area where the field was, and somehow still managed to be somewhat surprised by its presence, its camouflage capability was that great. They very carefully did some reconnaisance inside, as even though they knew it was there, they were unable to see through it. They made a plan to try to find the shack on the edge of the boundary, as shown in Constance’s photo. Once there, they found 3 orks guarding it, which they laid a trap for. They lured them out of the field, and there ambushed them. The plan was almost ruined by a grot which followed them through the field, but they managed to take it out before it could raise an alarm.
They then decided to try to destroy the shack with whatever explosives they had, in the hopes that it would remove the camouflage field, and exposing the orks to the navy cruiser in orbit. This seemed more prudent than anything else, as the elimination of the guards would not be a secret long. Inside the shack, they found a pile of ramshackle machinery, as well as a human, chained to the floor, who was working on the machines. He identified himself as tech-adept Magnus, and the group rescued him, laid their explosives, and ran. The shack exploded with the full force of the emperor’s fury, and just as they had hoped, the field hiding the ork’s plot fizzled and died. As the team watched, scout ships came to investigate, which drew ork fire. The orkish missiles flew into the air, as a small fleet of dropships lowered, which unloaded hordes of guardsmen, after bombing the area. The team decided that they needed to quickly identify and take the pages while the fighting was strongest, and they would be less noticed.
They snuck around the edge of the clearing, and managed to spot an ork nob standing giving orders to his crew. Stuck into his neck with a knife, was the page. They quickly set up a long range barrage of fire, once his boyz had all been sent further onward to the guardsmen, taunting the nob into charging them. They shot out all of their heavy weaponry, man-stopper rounds, hot-shot charges, flamer, whatever they could. They nob charged through all of it, arriving at their position with just enough vitality in him to delivery a strong blow to Grok’thar, almost downing him, before he managed to counterattack with two sword slashes of his own, finally downing the beastly ork.
